What is Cardiovascular Disease?
The term cardiovascular disease includes conditions such as coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, cerebral vascular disease, stroke, carotid artery disease and peripheral vascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is generally caused by a lack of blood flow to the arteries supplying either the heart, carotid arteries, brain or legs. This can result from a condition known as atherosclerosis or, simply put, a buildup of plaque which leads to a lack of oxygen supplying the vascular tissue. Common symptoms can include chest pain, skipped or irregular heart beats, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, dizzy spells, or pain in the jaw or legs.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States, accounting for nearly half of all fatalities. Almost one million people die each year from cardiovascular disease, or about one person every 33 seconds. New or recurrent heart attacks occur in approximately 1.5 million people per year. Unfortunately, the majority of heart attacks occur with little or no warning, making it essential to focus on preventive measures.

Treatment Options
Our goal is to nourish your heart and vascular tissue to reduce your susceptibility to disease and to reverse any pre-existing conditions. At the Magaziner Center for Wellness, we evaluate each patient for his or her unique biochemistry. We analyze our patients' production of free radicals and levels of specific antioxidants, as well as doing a comprehensive assessment of numerous independent cardiovascular risk factors such as homocysteine, fibrinogen, C-reactive protein, Lp(a), oxidized LDL cholesterol and platelet aggregation time. From these results, we prepare an individualized, targeted program to address the specific needs and requirements of each patient.
We encourage our patients to consume a diet rich in phytonutrients, antioxidants, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. We also recommend a diet low in sugar, saturated and trans-fats and dietary cholesterol. We stress the importance of supplemental antioxidant therapy including vitamins C, E, CoQ-10, alpha-lipoic acid and other nutrients such as folate, magnesium, L-carnitine and L-arginine. Specific herbs and botanicals are also used to support your vascular health. We encourage our patients to avoid cigarette smoking, processed foods, excessive alcohol, sugar and caffeine. Engaging in a regular exercise and stress- reduction program is also paramount to success.
Finally, we have found that chelation therapy and other intravenous infusions of antioxidants can be an integral part of a cardiac disease stabilization or reversal program. With our comprehensive program, we have helped thousands of patients to regain their strength and vitality and to achieve optimum health.
