At the Magaziner Center for Wellness, we treat fibromyalgia by treating the root cause of the imbalance. Rather than simply prescribing medication to mask the symptoms, we take a holistic approach, using extensive testing to determine all causes and contributing factors. While medications generally work by suppressing, blocking or disabling normal reactions in the body—a typical example being calcium channel blockers or ACE inhibitors, our natural therapies generally work by facilitating, enabling, and assisting normal physiologic reactions to occur. We create a unique and personalized treatment plan for every patient, based on their individual triggers, detoxification pathways, immunologic factors, nutritional status, lifestyle, lab work results, and more. As a result, our patients experience excellent clinical outcomes and fewer side effects. In short, our treatments work in concert with the body rather than attempting to battle it. Just think of us as an ally to your body.
What is fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a common condition in which people experience long-term, body-wide pain and tender points in joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms.
What causes fibromyalgia?
- Physical or emotional trauma
- An abnormal pain response
- Sleep disturbances
- An infectious microbe, such as a virus, bacteria, fungus or parasite
- Food allergies or sensitivities
- An overload of chemicals in the body
- Toxicity, including heavy metal toxicity
- Overgrowth of candida
- Hormonal or nutrient imbalance or deficiency
- Impaired detoxification
The following conditions may be seen with fibromyalgia or mimic its symptoms:
What are the symptoms?
- Deep aching, shooting or burning pain, which radiates from ‘tender points’ in the soft tissue on the back of the neck, shoulders, sternum, lower back, hips, shins, elbows and knees.
- Irritable bowel syndrome with gas, alternating diarrhea and constipation
- Poor memory and problems thinking clearly
- Numbness and tingling in hands and feet
- Reduced tolerance to exercise
- Sad or depressed mood
- Tension or migraine headaches
- Disabling fatigue
Diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires a history of at least three months of widespread pain, and pain and tenderness in at least 11 of 18 tender-point sites, including the fibrous tissue or muscles of the arms (elbows), buttocks, chest, knees, lower back, neck, rib cage, shoulders and thighs.
How They Treat It
Traditionally, fibromyalgia is treated by suppressing the individual symptoms with medication. The most commonly prescribed are pain relievers, including NSAIDs (both over-the-counter and prescription), antidepressants and anti-seizure drugs. NSAIDs have powerful side effects and can cause secondary issues, such as stomach problems, including bleeding and ulcer, abdominal pain, fluid retention, kidney problems, heart problems, rashes and more. In fact, NSAIDs have recently been found to be more dangerous than previously thought. The FDA is now strengthening their warning that even the over-the-counter strengths can cause heart attacks or strokes. Patients will generally be on some form of these medication for life. As with most drugs, they have a host of side effects, including addiction, loss of sexual desire, weight gain, constipation, insomnia, nausea, suicidal thoughts, depression, and more.
How We Treat It
At the Magaziner Center, we believe that suppressing the symptoms of fibromyalgia is not good enough. We recognize that fibromyalgia is a complex condition triggered by many underlying factors. We strive to find the underlying cause of the symptoms, and to treat the condition at its source. We analyze each patient uniquely via a full physical examination, biochemical analysis and discussion of his or her past medical history and individual lifestyle. We look beyond the label of “Fibromyalgia” to identify what’s keeping you from feeling better, and use natural and innovative methods to solve the underlying problem.
We test for triggers such as Food allergies or sensitivities, insufficiencies in nutrients, cellular imbalance, heavy metal toxicity, imbalance in gastroesophageal bacteria and yeast, and more. We are then able to treat each cause using methods such as nutritional supplementation, including intravenous supplements, and sublingual desensitization.
Each of these therapies will correct the imbalance or problem, rather than simply suppressing it. Our goal is not only to treat fibromyalgia, but to return our patients to optimal health, putting an end to symptoms naturally and helping them get back to their lives.
Why settle for a lifetime regimen of medication, some with side effects worse than the original condition? There are options. There is help- and you’ve just found it.
